Across from the Eiffel Tower, between Trocadero and Maison de la Radio, the upmarket neighbourhood of Passy is luckily not as sleepy as it first appears. Of course, the private mansions, landscaped gardens and little cobbled streets continue to attract those born into fortune, but the museums are being dusted off and shops becoming more modern. On Place du Trocadero, the new Cité de l’Architecture & du Patrimoine livens up the selection of museums. On Rue de Passy, aside from the brands for aspiring young ladies, new designer boutiques with a more poppy and preppy style are beginning to appear. At number 80, Franck et Fils, known as a miniature department stores, will soon be replaced by a second Grande Epicerie: a giant high-end supermarket, the worthy successor of its sister store in the Bon Marché. Shedding its conventional image, Passy is unveiling its seductive side.
