It is located in the upstream of the Ile de la Cité. It was actually two uninhabited islets called Ile Notre Dame (Our Lady Isle) and Ile aux Vaches (Cow Isle) in the early 17th century. That was until a building contractor called Christophe Marie and two financiers worked out a deal with Louis XIII to create one island and build to stone bridge to the mainland. The only sight is the French Baroque Eglise de Saint Louis was built between 1664 and 1726.
On the other side of the island, Parisian and tourists come to picnic on the banks of the Seine or go to Brasserie de l’Ile terrace, are standing in a queue in summer at the Berthillon ice-cream salesman looking at the narrow boats sailing below Notre Dame de Paris.
